Savings Rates Hit Record Low

The rate of interest paid on immediate access accounts from banks and building societies hit a five-year low in December at an average of just 0.81%. According to the Bank of England, the interest paid on notice accounts, tax-free ISAs and bonds last month was the lowest since records began in 1995, while the standard return on immediate access accounts was just 0.81%.
